(Critical Thinking) Fallacies

***DRAFT***

For completing a project from the Logical Fallacies section, you should find an example of this fallacy used "in the wild":

  • In a commercial advert
  • In a speech by a celebrity or politician
  • In a social network post
  • In a Whatsapp or Email chain message

The example can be printed or multimedia (audio or video) material.

After you find one such example, proceed as follows:

  1. Deliver a short speech about logical fallacies and explain the "Argument from popularity" fallacy in your own words. Explain also why it is a flawed way of reasoning. This short speech should be no more than 2-3 minutes.

  2. Present the example you have found to the club, and give the club some time to process it (usually half a minute). If the example you have found is printed, and if your club has a projector, you should project it for everyone to see. If not, then print it out and hand it to attending members during the meeting.  If the example is an audio or video snippet, project it or play it aloud during the meeting.

  3. Take between 1 and 2 minutes to explain why this is a fallacy and present counter-examples.
